San Andres Xecul

San Andrés Xecul (Xecul: is derived from two voices, that siginifica xe "low" and cul meaning "coat") is a municipality in the department of Totonicapan of the northwestern region of the Republic of Guatemala. The municipality is part of the Commonwealth metropolis of Los Altos.

In ancient times the place was called only "Xecul". In the Hispanic era Spaniards named the place with the name "San Andrés" in honor of Andrew (Apostle). The town was founded on August 8, 1858. The April 2, 1920 the municipo is involved the Royals reveldia Taxes.

The history of the church of San Andrés Xecul dates back to the mid-seventeenth century. Its unique design is one of the best that the country of Guatemala and the flamboyant displays of culture by the municipality.
