Tour Itinerary:

8:00 A.M. Transfer from your hotel in Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala to the archaeological site of Mixco Viejo. It is a moderate sized ruined city of the Postclassic Maya Civilization.

10:00 A.M. Arrival to the site. Get an up close look at the history and traditions of ancient Mayan culture on this Guatemala City Mixco Viejo day trip. Your expert guide will collect you from your Guatemala City or Antigua hotel and travel with you about an hour west to Chimaltenango. You’ll tour Mixco Viejo, located between two ravines, and learn about the former capital of the Poqomam Maya kingdom. Visit to Mixco Viejo archaeological site. Mixco Viejo was the capital of the Poqomam Maya Kingdom, and was founded on a defensive mountain-top location in the 12th century AD. The peak population in the early 16th century may have been around 10,000 people. Explore over 120 structures that cover the archeological site and learn about their significance from your guide. Gain a deeper understanding of the temples, pyramids and courts that make up this historic place.

1:00 PM: Transportation back to your hotel. You will have time to have lunch on the way back (not included).
