Cantel - Quetzaltenango

Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

Cantel is a small village in the department of Quetzaltenango of the south-western region of the Republic of Guatemala. Celebrates its celebration on August 15 in honor of his patron saint, the Virgin of the Assumption.

It all started when indigenous villages and the Spanish fought for dominance of the place that began in 1524. When the Spaniards managed to conquer the territory, founded in the year 1551. In its early years was called "People of Our Lady of the Assumption of Cantel" because there was an appearance of an image of Our Lady of the Assumption in a log. It is also believed that it was founded by a family from Totonicapan about the year 1580.
